DAHIYEH: Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem on Friday addressed a Central Ashura Council ceremony in Beirut’s southern suburbs, hours after reports that a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah had taken effect.
Speaking at the Sayyed al-Shuhada complex in Dahiyeh, Qassem said Hezbollah remained committed to the principles of resistance and the liberation of occupied territory. He maintained that the group had operated within the framework of Lebanon’s constitution and the Taif Agreement.
Qassem said Hezbollah rejected foreign domination, occupation and political dependency, describing the group’s actions as part of a wider struggle against what he called injustice and external interference.
He said that “every step in which we reject occupation counts as a victory for us,” adding that when “the enemy confronts us with weapons, we confront it with weapons.”
Further updates from Qassem’s address will follow as they emerge.
