ISLAMABAD: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) associations have announced a nationwide strike from November 16, rejecting the government’s new pricing formula for the commodity.
Senior Vice Chairman of the LPG Markets Association, Ali Haider, said that the sale of LPG would be suspended across the country from November 16. He added that the decision was taken during an emergency meeting of all LPG associations to protest against the government’s proposed pricing mechanism.
Ali Haider warned that the new pricing formula could increase LPG prices by 25 to 30 percent, prompting the associations to reject the government’s decision.
Meanwhile, LPG prices have already increased by Rs14.73 per kilogram for November. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued a notification fixing the new price at Rs294 per kilogram, effective November 1.
According to the notification, the price of an 11.8-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder has increased by Rs173.86, bringing its new price to Rs3,470.09.
Sources further claim that LPG is being sold in the open market at nearly twice the price fixed by OGRA. The announced strike could disrupt LPG supplies across the country if the associations proceed with their plan.
