Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called on the United States to accept a new transit route through the Strait of Hormuz, reportedly agreed upon by Iran and Oman, while demanding the release of Iranian funds frozen abroad.
Araghchi said all other routes established in the southern and northern parts of the strait should be closed, leaving only the agreed-upon main route open for maritime traffic.
Describing the proposed passage, the Iranian foreign minister said it would effectively function as a highway running through the middle of the Strait of Hormuz.
He also demanded the release of all Iranian funds that he described as illegally frozen by the United States in various locations around the world.
Araghchi particularly highlighted the $6 billion in Iranian funds that remain frozen in Qatar, expressing regret that the money has remained inaccessible for years.
His remarks underscore Tehran’s demands over maritime transit arrangements in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, as well as its longstanding push for the release of frozen Iranian assets.
