US-Iran Talks Expected in Doha Following Mediation Efforts by Pakistan and Qatar

Doha: Significant progress has reportedly been made in diplomatic efforts to bring the United States and Iran to the negotiating table following mediation by Pakistan and Qatar, with talks expected to take place in Doha today.

According to Arab media reports, the Iranian negotiating delegation is already in the Qatari capital.

Discussions are expected to focus on Iran’s nuclear programme, maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, and financial incentives for Tehran.

The proposed framework reportedly includes guarantees from China and Russia to ensure the implementation of any potential agreement.

However, Iran’s Foreign Minister has so far ruled out the possibility of immediate talks with US officials, stating that Tehran’s decision to negotiate with Washington will depend on the acceptance of certain conditions.

He added that the second phase of negotiations on the nuclear issue is underway and that Iran is reviewing proposals presented by mediators.

Meanwhile, Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz reportedly include the lifting of sanctions imposed on Tehran following the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
