WASHINGTON: Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, saying the United States would target the South Pars Gas Field if Tehran launches further attacks on Qatar.
In a statement posted on Truth Social, the US president described the South Pars gas field as a critical and valuable asset, adding that Washington had no prior knowledge of a recent Israeli strike on the facility.
Warning against escalation
Trump said Israel would not carry out further strikes on the site, but cautioned Iran against targeting Qatar’s energy infrastructure.
He termed any attacks on Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities as unjustified and warned that the US response would be unprecedented if such actions were repeated.
Regional tensions remain high
The US president noted that any Iranian strike on Qatar could further escalate tensions in the region, stressing that Washington seeks to avoid large-scale destruction and its long-term consequences for Iran.
