ISLAMABAD: Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has closed in on the top position in the latest International Cricket Council T20 rankings after an impressive performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, narrowing the gap with India’s Abhishek Sharma to just 26 points.
Farhan moved to second place with 383 runs, including a century against Sri Lanka national cricket team in Pallekele. His strong showing helped him surpass England batter Phil Salt, who slipped to third in the rankings.
India’s Ishan Kishan climbed to fourth position, while his compatriot Tilak Varma moved to sixth place. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis advanced to eighth.
Zimbabwe batter Brian Bennett made a notable jump of six places to 11th, while South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton (13th) and Aiden Markram (16th) also improved their standings.
In the bowling rankings, India spinner Varun Chakravarthy retained the top spot, though his lead has narrowed to 18 points. Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed climbed to third position.
India pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh were ranked seventh and 13th respectively. England’s Liam Dawson rose to 14th, while South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi held the final spot in the top 20.
Among all-rounders, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza maintained his lead at the top. India’s Hardik Pandya moved up to second place, pushing Pakistan’s Saim Ayub down to third.
West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder climbed eight places to reach 11th in the rankings.
