NEW DELHI — Members of the 11-nation BRICS group, including China, Russia, Iran and India, have called for calm and maximum restraint amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a joint statement issued Saturday during a BRICS summit in New Delhi, the member states expressed deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions across the Middle East and West Asia.
“We express deep concern over the continued escalation of tensions in the Middle East/West Asia and, recalling our respective national positions, call for exercising maximum restraint, as well as avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation,” the statement said.
The BRICS members urged all sides to avoid actions that could further intensify the crisis, stressing the need for restraint as regional tensions continue to raise concerns internationally.
The call comes as diplomatic efforts face growing challenges, with several countries warning that further escalation could have wider regional and global consequences.
