Russia, US and China Trilateral Meeting Could Raise Global Hopes for Stability, Says Maria Zakharova

MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that a possible trilateral meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in China has raised significant expectations worldwide, offering a potential opportunity to ease international tensions and promote global stability.

Speaking during a television programme on October 25, Zakharova said the world was going through an extremely difficult period in international relations, with uncertainty affecting almost every part of the globe.

She said that, under the current circumstances, the leaders of Russia, the United States and China could have an opportunity to exchange views on the sidelines of a multilateral international forum.

According to Zakharova, millions, if not billions, of people around the world would be watching such a meeting closely, as the international community increasingly views dialogue among major powers as important to addressing current tensions and uncertainty.

She expressed hope that the world could move away from what she described as a growing trend towards global disorder and return to stability, or at least begin moving in a direction that could establish the foundations for greater stability in the future.

Zakharova said a possible discussion among the three leaders could prove significant in advancing positive developments in international affairs.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump had also indicated the possibility of a trilateral meeting with Putin and Xi in China.

Meanwhile, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told journalists that Putin had discussed the possibility of the proposed trilateral summit during a meeting with US President Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

According to Ushakov, discussions had included the possibility of holding the meeting on November 18 and 19 in Shenzhen, China, on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

The proposed meeting is being discussed at a time when Russia, the United States and China remain influential actors in international relations, global security and a range of regional conflicts.

If held, the meeting could provide an opportunity for direct dialogue among the three major powers. However, confirmation of the summit’s final arrangements remains necessary.

Russian officials have expressed hope that high-level engagement could contribute to efforts to reduce international tensions and strengthen global stability.
