WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has told Axios that he is seriously considering resuming major combat operations against Iran, arguing that Tehran “haven’t received enough pain yet”.
“I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it,” Trump was quoted as saying on Thursday.
Trump acknowledged that such a move would have consequences but stressed that he had not yet reached a final decision or set any deadline. He said Israel “would join in two minutes if I ask them to”, but added: “We don’t need anybody.”
The US president also warned of “consequences” if Israel joined the attacks, appearing to refer to potential Iranian retaliation against Israel. Trump further claimed that Iranian officials “want to negotiate” but said they were not currently prepared to reach an agreement.
