Russia and Iran Sign Agreements for Construction of Eight Nuclear Power Units

MOSCOW: Russian state-owned nuclear energy company Rosatom has signed agreements for the construction of eight nuclear power units in Iran, including plans to build small nuclear power plants.

The Russian company has also announced plans to increase the number of its specialists working at the Bushehr nuclear power plant to 700, indicating a potential expansion of Russian technical involvement in Iran’s nuclear energy sector.

Iran has set a target of increasing its nuclear power generation capacity to 20 gigawatts by 2041. The agreements with Russia are expected to contribute to the country’s efforts to expand its nuclear energy infrastructure and increase electricity generation from nuclear power.

The agreements mark a further development in nuclear energy cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, although details regarding the construction schedule, costs and individual project locations were not specified in the report.
