ISLAMABAD — One person was killed and five others injured in reported cross-border firing in Pakistan’s border region, according to Pakistani officials. The incident was reported in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan, where civilian homes and a market were reportedly hit by gunfire.
Officials said Pakistani security forces responded to the firing from across the border. The incident raised fresh concerns about the security situation in the border region and the safety of local residents.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting rejected the Afghan Defence Ministry’s account of the Angoor Adda incident, describing it as baseless. The two sides have presented differing accounts of the incident, while details about the full circumstances and an independent verification of the reported casualties remain limited.
Border security and cross-border attacks have remained contentious issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Such incidents risk disrupting civilian movement, local commerce and daily life in communities located near the border.
