Britain’s International Development Minister Jenny Chapman has called on Israel to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon, saying the move is necessary to allow tens of thousands of people displaced by three months of conflict to return to their homes.
Speaking during a visit to a school where displaced families are taking shelter, Chapman stressed that displacement causes severe disruption for communities around the world.
“Israel should withdraw from southern Lebanon, absolutely,” she said, highlighting the impact of prolonged displacement on affected populations.
She added that efforts must focus on creating the right conditions for displaced people to return safely and rebuild their lives.
“That is why we want to get the conditions right so that people can return home and be secure, be safe, and be confident they can stay in their homes for the long term,” Chapman said.
