Qatar Praises Pakistan’s Role as Trump Announces Iran Deal, Tehran Denies Geneva Talks

Islamabad: Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, has praised the diplomatic efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir in advancing a potential peace agreement between the United States and Iran, as developments surrounding the anticipated deal continue to unfold.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, the Qatari premier made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Sheikh Mohammed expressed hope that Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement would contribute to lasting peace, stability, and regional security in the Middle East.

The conversation comes amid growing international attention over reports of a possible breakthrough in US-Iran relations following months of heightened tensions and diplomatic negotiations.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has dismissed speculation regarding an imminent round of talks in Europe. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated on Saturday that Tehran’s negotiating team has no plans to visit Geneva or any other location in the coming days.

The remarks, reported by Iranian state media, appeared to contradict reports suggesting that negotiations were entering a decisive phase.

Despite Tehran’s denial of upcoming diplomatic travel, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday.

In a post on social media, Trump claimed that the anticipated deal would immediately result in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, carrying a significant share of global oil exports. Any agreement affecting navigation through the strait would have far-reaching implications for international energy markets and regional stability.

While details of the proposed agreement have not yet been officially disclosed, analysts believe the deal could mark a major shift in relations between Washington and Tehran after years of confrontation, sanctions, and regional tensions.

Observers are closely monitoring developments as conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran continue to raise questions about the exact status and scope of the reported agreement. Nevertheless, Qatar’s recognition of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts highlights Islamabad’s growing role in facilitating dialogue and promoting peaceful resolutions to regional disputes.

The coming days are expected to provide greater clarity regarding the reported US-Iran agreement and its potential impact on Middle Eastern geopolitics, international trade routes, and regional security dynamics.
