ISLAMABAD: Missiles were seen heading toward Israel early Saturday after the Israeli military said it had detected projectiles launched from Iran, according to international media reports.
Shortly after the barrage, the Israel Defense Forces said it had initiated a new wave of air strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure in Tehran.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported that heavy air strikes hit Mehrabad Airport during the attacks.
Israeli forces also launched fresh strikes in Lebanon, saying the operations targeted Iranian and Hezbollah positions.
There was no immediate response from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or Hezbollah regarding the latest developments.
Hezbollah has previously fired rockets toward Israel, prompting Israeli air strikes on southern suburbs of Beirut as well as eastern and southern parts of Lebanon.
Inside Israel, residents reported hearing explosions as the country’s air defence systems were activated to intercept incoming missiles.
The exchange of missile fire marks another escalation in the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran, Israel and allied groups.
