NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in New York with a small Pakistani delegation to represent Pakistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi will accompany the prime minister during his visit.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2026. In his address, he will present Pakistan’s position on the changing regional and global security situation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The prime minister is expected to highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace and stability in the region.
He will also outline Pakistan’s priorities on sustainable development, climate change, the fight against terrorism, Islamophobia and global economic challenges.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will draw the international community’s attention to the long-standing issues of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, including the denial of the right to self-determination.
During the UN General Assembly session, the prime minister will participate in several high-level meetings focusing on development, climate action and other key global issues.
He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders attending the session, as well as with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
