US CENTCOM Establishes ‘Task Force Iron Gate’ to Restrict Iran’s Trade Routes

WASHINGTON: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced the establishment of a new task force, named Iron Gate, aimed at restricting the movement of goods through Iran’s land trade routes and the Caspian Sea.

According to CENTCOM, Admiral Brad Cooper, head of the US Central Command, directed the formation of the task force.

Its primary objective is to prevent the transfer of advanced weapons, dual-use technologies and sanctioned goods to Iran.

CENTCOM said Task Force Iron Gate would monitor and restrict the movement of goods through Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea.

The new task force will comprise approximately 20 civilian and military personnel, with its headquarters established in Tampa, Florida.

The command said the task force would work in coordination with other relevant US government agencies to limit Iran’s ability to replenish its military stockpiles and prevent the supply of advanced military equipment.

Restricting Iran’s sources of illicit revenue is also among its key objectives.
