WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said he is ready to accept the results of the midterm elections, acknowledging that the war with Iran and rising inflation contributed to the Republican Party’s defeat.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said he was fully prepared to accept the election results and expressed willingness to work with Democrats on a common course of action.
He said both parties could find areas of agreement and cooperate on issues of mutual interest.
In a separate interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump attributed the Republican setbacks to the war with Iran and inflation. He said he had no plans to make changes to his cabinet but indicated that his administration could work with Democrats on several issues, including immigration.
Trump also praised the Democrats’ electoral performance, saying they could cooperate with Republicans on various matters.
He said voters were unwilling to bear the short-term impact of rising petrol prices and acknowledged that the Iran war had played an important role in the election outcome.
However, Trump warned that he would veto legislation introduced by Democrats if he considered it unnecessary.
