A Pakistan Army major was martyred while five India-backed terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.
In a statement, the military’s media wing said that security forces conducted an IBO in the Razmak area on the reported presence of terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al-Khawarij.
During the operation, five India-sponsored khawarij were killed due to effective engagement by security forces.
“However, during the intense fire exchange, Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi (age: 34 years, resident of District Mianwali), a brave officer who was leading his troops from the front, having fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced shahadat,” according to the ISPR.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed khawarij, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces and law enforcement agencies, as well as the killing of innocent civilians, the ISPR said.
A sanitisation operation was being conducted to eliminate any other India-sponsored kharij found in the area, it added.
The military vowed that the counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam would continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies to combat foreign-sponsored and supported militancy across the country.
Suicide bomber, six other India-backed terrorists killed in Nushki IBO
In a separate operation, the security forces neutralised seven India-backed terrorists, including a suicide bomber, during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Nushki district, said the ISPR on Saturday.
The military’s media wing said that the IBO was conducted on the night between July 30 and 31 on the reported presence of terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Hindustan in the area.
“During the conduct of the operation, terrorists’ hideout was identified, monitored and busted through prompt surgical action by own forces killing all seven India-sponsored terrorists including a suicide bomber,” read the statement.
The ISPR said a cache of ammunition and improvised explosive devices was also destroyed at the site.
Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other India-sponsored terrorist found in the area, it added.
Pakistan witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its KP and Balochistan provinces, since 2021, when the Afghan Taliban came into power.
A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) showed KP and Balochistan were the epicentres of violence, with the former recording as the worst hit region, during the second quarter of 2026.
Jointly, the two provinces accounted for almost 96% of all violence-linked fatalities, with over 61% (475) recorded in KP and 34% (265) in Balochistan, according to the report.
KP recorded the highest number of violent incidents in the second quarter, with 151 cases (57%), followed by Balochistan with 94 incidents (35%), accounting for the majority of reported violence.
