Karachi Court Sentences Police Officer to Death in Fake Encounter Case

KARACHI: A Model Criminal Court in Karachi’s East district has sentenced police officer Shehryar to death after finding him guilty of killing a young man in a staged police encounter in the city.

The court also sentenced two co-accused police officers, Nasir and Faisal, to life imprisonment. All three convicts were ordered to pay Rs500,000 each in compensation to the victim’s heirs.

According to the prosecution, Shahin Force personnel signalled Aamir to stop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. When he did not stop, the officers pursued him, entered a residential apartment and opened fire on him, killing him.

The officers initially portrayed the incident as a police encounter. However, a case was subsequently registered against the accused at Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station in 2022.

After hearing the case, the court convicted the three officers, awarding the death penalty to Shehryar and life imprisonment to Nasir and Faisal.
