PTI Plans Six-Member Committee to Negotiate End of Governor’s Rule in KP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to pursue negotiations for the removal of governor’s rule and the emergency imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the party’s provincial parliamentary group preparing to establish a six-member negotiating committee.

According to sources, the decision was taken during a provincial parliamentary party meeting held last night, attended by 46 members. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also participated in the meeting.

Sources said the proposed committee would include Barrister Gohar, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Noor-ul-Haq Qadri. Three members of the provincial assembly would also be included. The committee is expected to hold negotiations aimed at ending governor’s rule and the emergency in the province.

According to the sources, Gandapur declined to participate in the negotiations without a formal announcement, questioning in what capacity the government would accept him at the negotiating table in the absence of an official notification.

During the meeting, Barrister Gohar assured participants that the negotiating committee would be formally announced within 48 hours.

The meeting also decided that the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, his three sisters and suspended KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would be the responsibility of the party’s federal parliamentary committee.
