Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke by telephone with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss regional developments, Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency reported.
The two ministers discussed the ongoing escalation between Iran and the United States, as well as efforts to establish peace, stability, and security in the region.
Araghchi and Abdelatty were in Manila to attend the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday condemned Iran’s attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan.
“These attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of these states, a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region, and a breach of international law and the Charter of the United Nations,” the ministry said in a statement.
Araghchi reiterated that Iran would not accept a ceasefire until its demands regarding the Strait of Hormuz are met.
“Until our goals are achieved, it is natural that we will continue our movement,” Araghchi told Tasnim News.
Commenting on a separate process involving Russia, China, and Pakistan aimed at ending the war, Araghchi said there was no issue regarding mediation between Iran and the United States, but rather a problem with Washington’s approach.
“There is no mediator problem between us and America, but the problem is America’s approaches,” Araghchi said.
Araghchi added that Iran was neither afraid of threats nor under pressure, stressing that it would not accept the language of threats.
“We are not afraid of threats, nor are we under pressure, and we do not tolerate the language of threats,” he said.
