PM Shehbaz welcomes US-Iran accord, calls it the start of a new dawn

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a major diplomatic achievement and praising the leadership of both countries for bringing the process to a successful conclusion.

Beginning his address, the premier said the world had reached a historic moment for peace. He remarked that a “new dawn” had emerged after three months and 16 days of sustained diplomatic efforts culminated in the announcement by Washington and Tehran of an immediate and permanent end to military action, including in Lebanon.

PM Shehbaz informed the House that the signing ceremony for the landmark agreement would take place in Geneva on Friday, June 19, with Pakistan serving as the host of the event. He extended congratulations to the people of Pakistan, the international community and members of parliament on the development.

The prime minister also expressed gratitude to PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, saying his guidance had remained available throughout the process. He further thanked President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and leaders of other political parties for their support.

Describing the accord as more than a bilateral arrangement, PM Shehbaz said it represented a victory for peace, dialogue and diplomacy. He praised the senior leadership of both the US and Iran for their role in achieving the breakthrough.

He added that representatives from both countries demonstrated patience, restraint and wisdom during the negotiations despite challenging circumstances. According to the premier, those efforts had ultimately led to a day that would be remembered as a significant achievement for the international community.
