Mohsin Rezaei: West Asian Security Must Be Ensured by Regional Countries, Without Foreign Interference

TEHRAN: Iran, Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have emphasized the need for regional cooperation to address security challenges in West Asia and prevent foreign interference, following a four-party meeting in Tehran focused on regional security and stability.

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said senior officials from Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia believed that cooperation among the four countries could help resolve regional problems.

Rezaei said the discussions had led to the conclusion that security in West Asia should be achieved through regional efforts and that foreign interference should be prevented.

He also described the visits by senior officials from the three countries to Iran, despite American threats, as significant.

The meeting reportedly highlighted the need for Israel to withdraw from Gaza, the occupied West Bank, southern Lebanon and southern Syria.

Participants also stressed that regional countries should take responsibility for ensuring their own security.

Reacting to the development, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, posted a message on X on Monday evening, describing the development as significant.

“Breaking news! It seems that the countries of the region have decided to take regional security into their own hands,” Ulyanov wrote, adding that the importance of this development could not be overlooked.

The one-day meeting concluded with an understanding to continue consultations and strengthen cooperation among the four countries to promote peace, security and stability across the region.

The discussions could pave the way for a new phase of practical cooperation among Iran, Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia on regional security issues.
