SOUTH AFRICA: South Africa has set a world record by operating a freight train consisting of 696 wagons on an iron ore export line, according to rail operator Transnet Freight Rail.
The record-breaking train, comprising empty wagons, operated on the iron ore export route between Saldanha and the Northern Cape.
Transnet Freight Rail announced the achievement, highlighting the scale of the operation on one of the country’s key mineral export corridors.
The operation demonstrates the capacity to handle exceptionally long freight trains on South Africa’s rail network, which plays a vital role in transporting iron ore for export.
