Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that US military bases across the Middle East could be targeted if American forces continue providing security escorts to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement published on its official website, the IRGC said US forces should understand that continuing what it described as “illegal security protection” for vessels transiting the strategic waterway could lead to attacks on American military bases in the region.
The IRGC also claimed that its naval forces simultaneously struck four vessels involved in oil transfers in the Gulf, triggering fires on board the ships.
According to Iranian officials, three additional vessels were damaged after striking naval mines in the western part of the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically important maritime route for global energy supplies, and any escalation in the area could threaten commercial shipping and disrupt international oil markets.
