NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held separate meetings with the foreign ministers of Austria, Greece and Kuwait on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, discussing bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
During his meeting with Austrian Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger, the two sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Austria relations and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, economic relations, education and people-to-people contacts.
They also discussed regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East. Dar stressed the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
The Austrian foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and emphasized the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement in addressing regional and global challenges. Dar also stressed the need for all parties to fully implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
In his meeting with Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, Dar discussed ways to further strengthen Pakistan-Greece bilateral relations, particularly through increased trade, investment and business-to-business linkages.
The Greek foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and its growing diplomatic engagement at the international level. He also acknowledged the valuable contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in Greece.
The two ministers exchanged views on regional and global developments, including disruptions to energy supply chains, and underscored the importance of unhindered maritime movement. They agreed to maintain sustained high-level engagement and extended invitations for reciprocal visits.
Dar also met Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, with the two sides reviewing the close and longstanding Pakistan-Kuwait relationship.
They welcomed continued high-level interactions between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East, and emphasized continued dialogue and diplomacy to promote peace and stability.
