NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held separate meetings with the leaders of Austria, Somalia and Kenya on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The prime minister met Federal Chancellor of Austria Christian Stocker on September 22 on the sidelines of the inaugural session of the 81st UNGA. The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud during the UNGA session. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation between Pakistan and Somalia.
Separately, the prime minister met Kenyan President William Ruto on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 81st UNGA.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ruto reviewed the state of Pakistan-Kenya relations and expressed satisfaction with their positive trajectory. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding and cordial ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz encouraged greater interaction between the business communities of Pakistan and Kenya and invited Kenyan investors to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in Special Economic Zones.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s interest in enhancing its engagement with the East African Community, which comprises countries in the East African region.
The meetings formed part of the prime minister’s engagements with world leaders on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
