NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, has thanked Pakistan’s leadership for its efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States and help bring an end to violence.
Speaking at a press briefing, Dujarric said the United Nations appreciated the peace efforts of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
He said Pakistan had played an important role in efforts to promote peace and stability, adding that the start of negotiations would pave the way toward ending the US-Iran conflict.
Dujarric described the US-Iran understanding reached in Islamabad as a significant achievement and stressed that diplomatic efforts must continue to find a resolution to the conflict.
