Qatar says no funds allocated for Iran reconstruction

DOHA: Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said that no Qatari funds have been paid under the reported framework involving $300 billion allocated for the reconstruction of Iran following the war.

“We cannot comment on the $300bn allocated for reconstruction,” al-Ansari told a reporter when asked about the reported figure.

US President Donald Trump on Monday rejected media reports regarding the $300 billion amount, describing them as “fake news”.

Al-Ansari said the region was not yet returning to normal relations with its neighbours, stressing that more dialogue and agreements were needed to ensure regional security.

“I can’t say that we are returning to business as usual in our region with our neighbours… There is a lot of need for dialogue and for agreement over how to guarantee the security of our region,” he said.
