Iran says MoU with US agreed to test Washington’s commitment to Iranian rights

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has shared details about how Tehran agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), saying it was aimed at testing the United States’ resolve to respect Iran’s rights.

In a post on X, he said that after intensive discussions, nearly all members of the Majlis (Islamic Consultative Assembly) supported the text of the MoU. He added that this support was given so that America’s true commitment to respecting the rights of the Iranian nation could be tested in practice.

Pezeshkian further stated that Supreme Leader Motjaba Khamenei played the most significant role in ensuring that key clauses were included to protect Iran’s national interests.

He said the MoU was the outcome of months of dialogue and continuous follow-ups, describing it as an important step toward ending conflict and opening the way for negotiations.

The president added that Iran has prepared itself for all possible scenarios and remains ready for any developments.

He also said that if all provisions of the MoU are fully implemented, it could be regarded as a “document of pride” for the country.
