PM Shehbaz unveils Rs10m housing loans under Rs3.2tr Apna Ghar Programme

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday launched the “PM Apna Ghar Programme” under which housing loans of up to Rs10 million will be provided on easy instalments.

The programme will be implemented in Islamabad, all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the launch ceremony in the federal capital, PM Shehbaz said the initiative aims to construct a total of 500,000 housing units with an overall allocation of Rs3.2 trillion.

He said the housing loans will be repayable over a period of 20 years. Under the scheme, the markup will remain 5% during the first 10 years, while in the next 10 years it will be charged at the prevailing market rate at that time.

The prime minister added that in the first year, the government has set a target of financing 50,000 houses, for which Rs321 billion has been allocated. He said the scheme will allow construction of housing units of up to 10 marla.

PM Shehbaz also said he would personally review the progress of the programme on a monthly basis to ensure timely implementation, address any shortcomings, and monitor repayments.
