Cambridge Opens Inquiry into Alleged Exam Leak in Pakistan

KARACHI: Cambridge International Education (CIE) has started looking into reports that an AS-Level Mathematics Paper 1 may have been leaked just hours before the exam in Pakistan, once again raising concerns about exam security during the ongoing May–June session.

In a statement, CIE said it is aware of the situation and is taking it seriously. The organisation added that it will carry out a thorough investigation and will update exam centres if needed, either during or after the June 2026 exam series.

The response came after claims surfaced that the AS Mathematics Paper 1 for the June 2026 session, Pure Mathematics 1 (9707) had been shared before the scheduled Wednesday afternoon exam.

The news has left many students and parents worried, especially those currently taking exams, as questions about fairness and merit in the Cambridge system have started to resurface.

This isn’t the first time such concerns have come up. Last year, Cambridge confirmed that a few questions from three different papers in the June 2025 session had been leaked shortly before the exams.

According to the organisation, its Exam Security Team found limited breaches at the time. These included one question from AS and A Level Mathematics Paper 12, parts of two questions from Paper 42, and part of one question from Computer Science Paper 22.

Even then, CIE clarified that there was no evidence to suggest that entire question papers had been leaked in advance.
