‘Iron Gate’ Won’t Choke Iran, Says IRGC Spokesman

Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has dismissed the United States’ “Iron Gate” plan as nothing more than a play on words.

In a statement, IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said the US plan to blockade Iran through land routes is also insignificant.

He said Washington is trying to impose an economic siege on Iran under various names and plans, but it will fail.

“We have good relations with our neighbours and several routes for these ties. The US is too weak to close them,” Mohebbi said.

After a months-long naval blockade of Iran, US Central Command ordered the formation of a special task force.

Its aim is to curb the movement of advanced weapons systems and other sanctioned Iranian goods across land borders and the Caspian Sea.

The task force, called Iron Gate, will have around 20 military and civilian personnel.

It will be based in Tampa, Florida, and will coordinate with other US government agencies.
