Iran Sets Conditions for US Negotiations as Pezeshkian Meets Pakistan’s Army Chief

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on the United States to explain why it initiated the war and dragged itself and the wider world into the conflict, stressing that Washington must lift pressure, threats and sanctions before any negotiations can take place.

According to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, amid diplomatic efforts surrounding regional tensions.

Pezeshkian said the United States must answer for starting the war and its consequences, adding that the removal of pressure, threats and sanctions was a prerequisite for negotiations.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also reiterated Tehran’s position during his meeting with the Pakistani army chief.

According to IRIB, Ghalibaf said Iran had nothing new to add to its position and maintained that the United States could not gain Iran’s trust without implementing seven conditions set by Tehran.

During the meetings, Field Marshal Asim Munir said the issue concerning the Iran–Pakistan border had been resolved and announced that the border had reopened that morning.

The development signals progress in addressing the border-related issue between the two neighbouring countries.

Iran Rules Out Transfer of Enriched Nuclear Material

Major General Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also held a meeting with Asim Munir, during which he delivered a firm message regarding Iran’s enriched nuclear material.

According to the statement attributed to Rezaei, Iran would not allow any of its enriched nuclear material to leave the country.

“Not a single particle of Iran’s enriched nuclear material will ever leave the country,” he said.

The statements underscore Tehran’s insistence on the removal of US pressure, the fulfilment of its stated conditions for negotiations and the preservation of its position on nuclear material, while Pakistan continues to engage with Iranian leadership amid regional tensions.
