Iran’s Bandar Abbas airport resumes commercial flights after four-month closure

TEHRAN: Bandar Abbas International Airport in southern Iran has resumed commercial flight operations after remaining closed for four months.

According to the Fars news agency, the first passenger flight from Mashhad landed at the airport on Saturday afternoon, marking the resumption of commercial air services.

Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan province, is located around 1,000 kilometres (621 miles) south of Tehran on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The airport had been shut down for reconstruction and repair work after sustaining damage during the US-Israeli bombardment. Authorities expect flights to Tehran, Shiraz and Yazd to gradually resume in the coming days.
