Egypt, Turkiye intelligence chiefs meet Hamas leaders in Cairo over Gaza ceasefire

CAIRO: A Hamas delegation held talks in Cairo with the intelligence chiefs of Egypt and Turkiye to discuss the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, according to Egypt’s state-run newspaper Al-Ahram.

The report said Egypt’s General Intelligence Service director, Major General Hassan Rashad, and the head of Turkiye’s National Intelligence Organization, Ibrahim Kalin, met on Tuesday with senior Hamas leaders Khaled Meshaal, Khalil al-Hayya and Mohammed Hassan.

Discussions focused on advancing the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire under a roadmap brokered by Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye and the United States. The agreement was signed during the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit on October 10.

According to Al-Ahram, the talks were positive and reflected considerable optimism about completing the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s so-called peace plan.

The report added that Hamas leaders reaffirmed their full support for the plan and expressed their commitment to overcoming any obstacles to its implementation.
