IRGC warns US attacks could halt Islamabad MoU, derail negotiations

TEHRAN: The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a stronger statement than its previous ones, placing particular emphasis on the Islamabad memorandum of understanding (MoU) and warning the United States against continued attacks.

According to the statement, the MoU assigns Iran responsibility for controlling passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC said stronger action would now be taken against any ships found violating the agreed arrangements.

The force also warned that if the United States continues what it described as acts of aggression, Iran would respond far more forcefully and the US would face a “crushing response.”

Like its statement issued a day earlier, the IRGC highlighted the fifth clause of the Islamabad MoU, arguing that it authorises Iran to exercise control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement concluded with a firm warning directed at Washington, saying the United States should understand that violating the ceasefire would breach the first clause of the MoU and could result in a complete halt to the implementation process.

The IRGC said continued attacks by the United States would bring both the Islamabad MoU and the ongoing negotiations to a standstill.
