BANNU: Four bodies bearing bullet wounds were recovered from inside an ambulance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district on Friday, police officials said.
According to police sources, the ambulance was found on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Circular Road. Initial investigations suggest that unidentified assailants opened fire on the vehicle, killing four middle-aged men. Officials believe the attack took place on Thursday night.
Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident, sealed off the area and began collecting evidence. The bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal procedures.
Authorities have registered a case against unidentified attackers and launched an investigation. Police said the motive behind the killings remains unclear and further inquiries are ongoing.
Bannu has witnessed a series of security-related incidents in recent months as militant violence has intensified, with civilians and security personnel frequently coming under attack. The district has also seen assaults targeting police and jirga members, prompting security forces to carry out operations in different areas to dismantle militant networks.
The latest incident comes a week after two explosions in Marka Bera, a semi-tribal mountainous area in Bannu’s Wazir subdivision, killed seven people and injured three others.
Earlier, on June 13, suspected militants attempted to blow up the Teri Ram Bridge on Miryan Road using explosives, leaving the structure partially damaged.
Amid the worsening security situation, a jirga convened on June 18 urged the government to take immediate and decisive action to eliminate militancy from the region.
