Qatar and Turkiye have expressed solidarity with Venezuela following two powerful earthquakes that struck the country, leaving at least 164 people dead and more than 970 injured.
Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, sent a message of condolence to Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez. In his message, the emir expressed sympathy over the loss of life caused by the disaster and wished those injured a speedy recovery, according to the Qatar News Agency.
The earthquakes have caused significant devastation, particularly in the state of La Guaira, located north of the capital Caracas. Acting President Rodriguez said the death toll had risen rapidly to at least 164, while more than 970 people had been injured.
Separately, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also conveyed his condolences to Venezuela and expressed support for the country during the crisis.
“We stand by our Venezuelan friends during these painful and difficult days,” Erdogan said in a post on X. He added that he shared the grief of those who lost loved ones in the earthquakes and extended his condolences and wishes for a swift recovery to the Venezuelan people and government.
