BURGEN STOCK: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said he met Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Burgenstock to discuss developments related to Iran, the way forward and the potential role of the nuclear watchdog in ongoing diplomatic efforts.
“Amid this critical moment, it is important to give diplomacy every opportunity to succeed,” Grossi said after the meeting.
Earlier this month, the IAEA’s governing board approved a United States-backed resolution calling on Iran to provide “complete information” about its enriched uranium stockpiles and allow access for inspectors to verify the material.
The IAEA estimates that Iran possessed 440 kilograms (970 pounds) of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity — a level close to weapons-grade — when Israel and the United States launched their initial attacks on the country in June last year.
