Iran Warns of Strong Response if US Deal Is Breached

TEHRAN: Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Friday warned that Tehran would deliver a strong response if the agreement with the United States is violated or if excessive demands are made.

“In the event of any breach of commitment, violation of the agreement, or excessive demands by the other side, we have no hesitation in delivering a crushing response to the enemy. They were slapped once in the war; if they choose to follow the same path again, they will receive an even harsher slap,” Ghalibaf said in a post on the US social media platform X.

He said their responsibility, as directed by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, is to ensure the implementation of the agreement’s conditions and provisions, adding that they remain committed to following those instructions.

On Wednesday evening, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding”, a pact aimed at paving the way for ending the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.

Under the memorandum, Washington and Tehran are scheduled to hold negotiations over a period of 60 days, with the possibility of an extension. The talks are intended to reach a final agreement covering Iran’s nuclear programme and international sanctions.
