ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for several parts of the country from June 8 to June 12, warning that temperatures are expected to rise significantly above normal levels.
According to the Met Office, cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, and Sialkot are likely to experience intense heat during the forecast period.
The department also warned of increasing heatwave conditions in Karachi, where temperatures are expected to range between 40°C and 43°C over the coming days.
Several districts of Punjab, including Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, and Bhakkar, are also expected to remain under the influence of the heatwave.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other regions, Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Sibi, Turbat, and Panjgur are forecast to experience exceptionally high temperatures.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that temperatures in the affected areas may remain 4°C to 6°C above normal, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses and discomfort.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated, and take precautionary measures to protect vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
The heatwave alert comes as large parts of the country continue to experience extreme summer conditions, with officials urging the public to follow weather advisories and safety guidelines.
