Diamer: Authorities have imposed Section 144 in the Diamer district to maintain law and order as preparations for the Gilgit-Baltistan General Assembly Elections 2026 have been completed.
Thousands of election officials have been deployed for duty across 24 constituencies. A total of 7,500 officers and staff members have been assigned election responsibilities.
Authorities have also announced financial incentives for election staff, with a total allocation of Rs276 million in honoraria. This includes Rs1.8 million for 24 returning officers and Rs1.2 million for assistant returning officers.
For polling arrangements, 1,368 presiding officers have been allocated Rs16.416 million, while 2,450 assistant presiding officers will receive Rs24.5 million. Similarly, Rs24 million has been allocated for 2,450 polling officers.
Additionally, Rs208 million has been reserved for lower-grade staff, including LDCs, UDCs, and support personnel engaged in election duties.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Diamer has imposed Section 144 for a period of 60 days to ensure security. The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner, prohibits display of weapons, aerial firing, and the use of fireworks.
The notification also bans the unauthorized use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, requiring prior approval from the District Magistrate for any drone operations.
Strict measures have been introduced to protect sensitive installations, and law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the restrictions.
The administration stated that the measures came into effect from June 5, 2026, and warned that strict legal action will be taken against any violations. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with the directives to ensure peace and security in the region.
