Karachi court remands alleged drug peddler Pinky in police custody for 3 days

KARACHI: A local court in Karachi on Wednesday granted a three-day physical remand of alleged high-profile drug peddler Anmol alias Pinky in a case registered by Karachi South Police.

Police had approached the court a day after an earlier request for her physical remand was rejected. Following that hearing, the suspect had been sent to jail on judicial remand.

According to the remand report submitted by the investigating officer, police sought custody on three grounds: tracing the source of the cocaine supply, investigating her financial resources, and conducting a Criminal Record Office (CRO) check.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the investigating officer once again requested physical remand in the case registered against Pinky. DIG South said a fresh plea had been filed before the court and added that details of previous cases against Anmol alias Pinky had also been collected.

Pinky, who was arrested from Karachi’s Garden area, was described by police as a highly wanted suspect who had been absconding in at least 10 separate cases.

Police said weapons, cocaine and other narcotics worth approximately Rs1.5 million were recovered from her possession. Investigators further alleged that she had been operating a drug supply network in the port city.

Separately, investigators recovered multiple audio messages from Pinky’s mobile phone. In one alleged voice note, she can reportedly be heard warning her contacts about a possible arrest and indicating that her network would continue operating through another individual.

“Hi friends! If you are listening to this message, it means either something has happened to me or I am no longer alive. If anything happens to me, someone will continue contacting you from this same number,” Pinky allegedly said in the audio message.

“The contact person will be a man, my friend, who will handle the work. If something happens to me, the work will continue through the same number,” the message added.

In another development, the SSP South was removed from the inquiry and replaced by DIG West Irfan Baloch, according to an official notification.

DIG West Irfan Baloch has been tasked with investigating all matters that emerged during Pinky’s court appearance on Tuesday. The inquiry will also examine alleged protocol violations.

According to the notification, DIG West has been directed to submit a report within three days. The Additional IG said strict action would be taken against any officers or officials found guilty of negligence or misconduct.
