HEC introduces digital degree attestation system for students

ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) on Monday announced the launch of a fully online and paperless degree attestation system aimed at facilitating students and graduates across the country.

In December last year, the HEC revealed plans to revamp its degree attestation system by integrating modern blockchain technology, stating that the project would be completed within six months. Separately, the National Assembly Standing Committee on Government Assurances had also directed the commission to reduce delays in the degree attestation process.

Sharing the development on X, HEC Chairman Dr Niaz Ahmed Akhtar said the commission had modernised the Degree Attestation System (DAS) by introducing a completely digital and paperless attestation mechanism to make the process easier for students and graduates nationwide.

Under the new system, applicants will no longer need to visit HEC offices in person or submit original documents physically. Instead, applications for online attestation can now be submitted round the clock through the HEC e-Services Portal.

Dr Akhtar said the new e-attestation certificate system was designed to provide a secure, efficient and user-friendly process. He added that online verification of attested documents and certificates would also be available.

According to details available on HEC’s official website, the modernised system is aimed at making the attestation process fast, convenient and hassle-free by eliminating the need for applicants to visit HEC offices or submit hard copies of their original documents. Applications can be submitted anytime through the online portal at www.eservices.hec.gov.pk.

To apply for online degree attestation, candidates will first need to create an account on the portal and provide their personal and academic details. Applicants will then upload their transcripts and other required documents online for scrutiny by the HEC and verification by their respective universities.

The fee payment process has also been digitised, allowing applicants to make payments online through 1-link.

Following the final review and verification process, the HEC will issue an e-attestation certificate for the submitted documents. Applicants will be informed through SMS and email notifications.

The attested and verifiable certificate can also be downloaded directly from the applicant’s online account on the HEC portal.

Before the introduction of this initiative, candidates were required to either send their documents to the HEC through courier services or personally visit HEC offices for attestation. The new system replaces the traditional physical stamp with a verifiable e-certificate, significantly reducing the time, cost and effort involved in the manual attestation process.
