RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir will address a ceremony at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi tomorrow (Sunday) to mark one year of the Marka-e-Haq victory.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8:40am and will be attended by the country’s top military leadership, with Field Marshal Munir serving as the chief guest.
Chief of the Air Staff Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu and Chief of the Naval Staff Naveed Ashraf will also participate in the event. The programme includes wreath laying at the martyrs’ monument along with a tri-services salute.
Marka-e-Haq, meaning “battle of truth”, refers to the 19-day military conflict between Pakistan and India that lasted from April 22 to May 10, 2025.
On May 6 and 7 last year, India launched what Pakistan described as an unprovoked attack following an incident involving tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
During the ensuing 87-hour conflict, Pakistan claimed to have shot down eight Indian fighter jets, including French-made Rafale aircraft, as well as dozens of drones. The fighting between the two nuclear-armed neighbours came to an end on May 10 after a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States.
Earlier this week, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan was “preparing for the future war” and asserted that the country had not underestimated India but had “placed them where they are”.
The ISPR director general made the remarks during a press conference alongside Rear Admiral Shifaat Ali Khan and Air Vice Marshal Tariq Ghazi to mark the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq.
During the media briefing, Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan’s armed forces had defeated an enemy “five times larger than itself” and further described India as a “terrorist state”.
Separately, the Islamabad Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory ahead of an event scheduled for May 10, 2026, to commemorate the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq.
According to the advisory shared on X by the Islamabad deputy commissioner, temporary traffic diversions will remain in effect on several major routes in the federal capital from 6pm until midnight on May 10.
