End the hide-and-seek’: PTI calls for hospital shift of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Gohar Ali Khan on Thursday demanded that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi be shifted to a hospital for medical treatment and tests under the supervision of their personal doctors.

In a statement, Barrister Gohar said he had been informed that Bushra Bibi was taken to the hospital late Wednesday night for eye laser treatment before being shifted back to jail.

“I have requested a family meeting today and am awaiting approval. We have grave concerns regarding Khan sahib and Bushra Bibi’s health,” he said.

The PTI chairman demanded that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be transferred to a hospital for treatment and medical examinations in the presence of their family members and under the supervision of their own doctors.

“It is time to end this hide-and-seek approach regarding their health issues. Concern is growing and immediate attention is required,” Barrister Gohar added.

It is pertinent to mention that Bushra Bibi was reportedly shifted back to Adiala Jail on Wednesday after undergoing a medical examination at Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital.

Sources said the former first lady was taken to the hospital under tight security arrangements for a scheduled follow-up examination of her eye, which had previously been operated on April 17 at the same facility.

According to sources, periodic follow-up examinations had also been conducted inside Adiala Jail following the surgery.

Bushra Bibi underwent eye surgery last month after complaining of impaired vision in her right eye, prompting the jail administration to arrange an immediate examination by ophthalmology specialists.

She was moved to the healthcare facility on April 16 after doctors confirmed retinal detachment and advised urgent surgery.

After obtaining her consent, the procedure was carried out by Dr Nadeem Qureshi along with a panel of medical experts, sources had said at the time.

Following the surgery and an overnight stay at the hospital, Bushra Bibi was discharged and shifted back to Adiala Jail.

The former first lady is currently serving a seven-year sentence in the £190 million corruption case. In December 2025, she was also sentenced to 17 years imprisonment in the Toshakhana-2 case involving the underpriced purchase of luxury state gifts.
