Tehran: Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has been confirmed dead in a high-profile attack, Iranian officials announced.
Larijani, a senior statesman and key figure in Iran’s national security apparatus, was martyred alongside his son, Morteza Larijani, security deputy Alireza Bayat, and several bodyguards.
Officials described Larijani as a lifelong advocate for Iran’s sovereignty and the advancement of the Islamic Revolution.
Throughout his career, he emphasized national unity, resilience, and vigilance against foreign adversaries, including the United States and Israel. His leadership and dedication have been widely recognized within Iran and among allied groups in the region.
Larijani’s death is being mourned as a major loss for the Iranian nation. State media reported that he is now joined in martyrdom with revered figures such as Imam Ali, Imam of Martyrs Ramadan, his teacher Ayatollah Motahhari, and close allies including Hassan Nasrallah and Qasem Soleimani.
Iranian authorities stressed that Larijani’s sacrifice will inspire continued commitment to the path of resistance and national defense.
The Supreme National Security Council released a statement honoring Larijani’s decades of service and urging the public to maintain unity in the face of external threats.
Security forces across the country have heightened precautions, and public commemorations and tributes are ongoing in major cities.
Larijani’s martyrdom comes 18 days after the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, marking a period of profound mourning for Iran’s political and religious leadership.
