Islamabad: Pakistan has warned that any further provocation by the Afghan Taliban regime or terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil will be met with a “measured, decisive, and befitting response,” the Foreign Office said on Friday.
In an official statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan exercised its right to self-defence on February 26 following repeated terrorist attacks carried out by Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan against targets inside Pakistan.
According to Islamabad, these attacks were launched from Afghan territory, posing a direct threat to Pakistan’s national security.
The statement emphasized that Pakistan’s actions were in line with its inherent right to self-defence under international law. It added that the country has consistently demonstrated restraint despite persistent cross-border threats.
Warning against further escalation, Islamabad made it clear that any additional provocations by the Taliban regime, or attempts by terrorist outfits to undermine the security and welfare of the Pakistani people, would prompt a firm and proportionate response.
The Foreign Office also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to maintain regional peace and stability. It noted that Islamabad had made numerous goodwill gestures toward Afghanistan and adopted what it described as a highly responsible and restrained approach in recent months.
However, the statement expressed regret that Pakistan’s conciliatory efforts were misconstrued, leading to an increase in terrorist attacks originating from Afghan soil. It further alleged that these attacks were carried out with the active support and backing of the Taliban regime, as well as India.
Pakistan reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens, while urging the Afghan authorities to prevent the use of their territory by terrorist groups targeting Pakistan.
The latest warning underscores growing tensions between the two neighboring countries amid rising security concerns along the border, with Islamabad signaling that it will not tolerate further threats to its national security.
