Kabul (Monitoring Desk) Pakistan has reportedly carried out a major military strike in the Afghan border city of Spin Boldak, targeting a vehicle believed to be carrying a senior Taliban commander.
According to security sources, the vehicle was allegedly transporting Neda Mohammad Nadeem, the Taliban’s Minister of Education and former governor of Nangarhar province.
Sources claim that Nadeem was killed in the targeted strike. He previously served as governor of Nangarhar and was considered a key figure within the Taliban administration in Kabul. There has been no immediate official confirmation from the Taliban authorities regarding his death.
Independent sources have reportedly confirmed that at least 133 Taliban fighters were killed in the operation, while more than 200 others sustained injuries. The scale of casualties suggests one of the most significant cross-border escalations in recent months between Pakistan and Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
In addition to personnel losses, extensive damage to military infrastructure has been reported.
According to the claims, 27 Afghan security checkpoints were destroyed, and 9 others were taken under control during the operation. The offensive allegedly resulted in the destruction of two corps headquarters, three brigade headquarters, two weapons depots, one logistics base, three battalion headquarters, and two sector headquarters.
Military hardware losses were also described as substantial. More than 80 tanks, artillery pieces, and armored vehicles were reportedly destroyed during the strikes and subsequent clashes.
The strike in Spin Boldak marks a significant development in rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The region has long been a flashpoint for cross-border militant activity, with Pakistan repeatedly accusing Afghan soil of being used to launch attacks inside its territory. Taliban authorities, however, have often denied such allegations.
As of now, there has been no formal statement from Islamabad detailing the operation, nor has there been an official response from Kabul confirming the reported casualties and infrastructure damage.
The situation remains fluid, and further verification from independent and official sources is awaited.
